The Florida Club has a new General Manager/Director of Golf. You need to get to know Tom Welz. Tom is a member of the PGA and is originally from Uhrichsville, Ohio (South of Canton). Tom and his wife, Terrie who is assisting him in the golf operation, have three sons, Justin 19, Tyler 10 and Brandon 9. Tom hopes that they too will enjoy a career in golf one day.

Tom moved to South Florida in 1986 and has been in the golf business ever since. He began his golf career at Deer Creek Golf Club in Deerfield Beach , Florida in golf course maintenance performing various maintenance functions. He then worked in the bag room and quickly worked his way up the ladder and into the Head Golf Professional position in less than two and a half years. In 1988, he was transferred to the Carolina Club in Margate, Florida where he helped start up the operation for the new owners.

In 1992, Tom started his own golf school, The South Florida Golf Academy originally located at the Carolina Club. Several years later, he moved the school to Palm-Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Florida where it is still a successful operation today.
